Currently Loving: Clementine Vintage Diamond Engagement Ring circa 1950

Today’s Currently Loving guest post is from Laura of Sweeter Salt, who named our Clementine Vintage Diamond Engagement Ring circa 1950:

When I was asked by Turtle Love Co. to name a vintage engagement ring my mind went right to my favorite girls’ name - Clementine! Though unusual, it’s a classic - one of the reasons why I love it. I’ve never actually met a Clementine, but when I think about the name I come up with a few adjective: vivacious, spirited, timeless, and stylish, to name a few. Oh, and I couldn’t help but to think of Clementine’s namesake - the tasty little citrus fruit. To me, “Clementine” is a woman inspired by France, with classic taste, and a love for sunny color.

Can’t you just see her? She’s wearing her gorgeous ring, sipping a French 75, wearing that amazing orange lace dress and serving up some serious wit? Ah, to be Clementine.

Currently Loving: Julia Vintage Diamond Engagement Ring

Our Julia Vintage Diamond Engagement Ring is named after our Vintage Style Council Member of the same name who blogs over at Jeeze, Julia. When she saw the gorgeous antique engagement ring we had named after her she put together a beautiful style board on Pinterest based around the literary and romantic feel of the ring.

As she says: ”This ring tells the story of a Romeo + Juliet, Heathcliff + Cathy, John + Yoko kind of love. A literary romance of fantastic proportions. An intuitive emotional connection so strong that only memory or black + white pages can contain it. The kind of love where a single photograph or love letter is enough to make a bride’s eyes swell with tears sixty years after her wedding day. This ring, when I imagine its wearer, would be a symbol of this greatest type of love, and it has inspired my latest pinboard. I wish each of you this most wonderful all-encompassing romance, and if you haven’t found it yet, don’t feel lonely, fall in love with literature’s classic couples and dream of your own future lover!”

Currently Loving: Carmella Vintage Diamond Engagement Ring

When asked if they would like a vintage diamond engagement ring named after themselves, some members of our Vintage Style Council chose instead to name their ring in honor of someone else. Laura from Fore Front Fashion chose to name her vintage diamond engagement ring after her grandmother, Carmella and chose images for her pin board “inspired by my Grandmother and my heritage,” she says. “I have a deep admiration for some of the classic Italian beauties like Isabella Rosselini and Sofia Loren - two of my style icons along with my Grandma Carmy. I just love everything about 1950′s Italy: the red lips, the exaggerated hips, the ladylike silhouettes and the lifestyle. Back when men wore a shirt and tie most days — if only…!”

Currently Loving: Ellie Vintage Diamond Engagement Ring

When we asked Erin from Just Plain Lovely for help naming one of our newly arrived vintage engagement rings, she didn’t hesitate to name it after one of her style icons- her grandmother Ellie. Below, Erin tells us a bit more about why her grandmother would have loved her namesake ring.

“The Ellie Vintage Diamond Engagement Ring oozes classic style. It was named for my grandmother and would have obviously been one of her favorites. All throughout my childhood, Ellie was the style maven. She was always perfectly put together. Her outfit, her hair, her jewelry and shoes… everything was just right. Her closet nearly exploded with accessories, so it’s no surprise that my favorite activity was to try everything on — one by one, piece by piece. I adore the old photos of her, young and carefree, smiling at my grandfather without a care in the world. That’s how she’ll live on in my mind, with a bit of Sinatra playing in the background.”

Currently Loving: Michelle Vintage Diamond Engagement Ring

We recently gave members of our Vintage Style Council the opportunity to have a vintage diamond ring named after themselves and when Michelle from Maine Belle saw hers she was immediately struck by its timeless and graceful design. As she explains, “The Michelle Vintage Diamond Engagement Ring inspired me to look for classic and elegant images that are reminiscent of the 1950s. My own personal style tends to be very natural and vintage focused, so these images also reflect my own personality.”

Michelle imagined a wedding with a handmade feel and a chose each image on her pin board to reflect that: “I love the idea of the different mismatched plates for a wedding. Each one would add character and a vintage feel to any wedding. My own wedding dress was inspired by Audrey Hepburn, so I looked for similar styles that the Michelle ring inspired - wedding dresses with full skirts, floral details, tulle and elegant lines.

The classic heels with ties and circle leaf design earrings would complement any of these dresses. I imagine a wedding party drinking out of elegant violet teacups, sipping on lavender cocktails and enjoying a homemade lemon cream cake. The Michelle Vintage Diamond Engagement ring inspires classiness, simplicity and an appreciation of the details.”

To me, buying vintage jewelry is an investment. Timeless design never goes out of fashion. A simple classic like pearl earrings are the kind of thing a girl can wear from the age of 18 through to her 70’s, providing she doesn’t lose one! I believe in classic design that is as relevant today as it was all those years ago.

Fancy Dress Friday: guest posts and vintage ring cases

Happy Friday the 13th, everyone!

Today’s date may have some people scared, but we’re not afraid to admit that we’ve had a great week here at Turtle Love Co.

The week began with a guest post from our Vintage Style Council Member of the Month Katherine from Of Corgis and Cocktails. She showed us one way to style her current favorite piece of our artisan jewelry, the Laurel Leaf Keepsake Necklace by Laura Serrafero. If you’re not familiar with this necklace, it’s handcrafted from 50% recycled sterling silver and has a lustrous 8mm aquamarine briolette and an engaging 8mm freshwater biwa pearl accompanying its silver laurel leaf.

We also recently acquired a new batch of vintage rings and what better way to photograph old engagement rings than by placing them in and around antique engagement ring boxes? We were lucky enough to get a gorgeous collection of vintage velvet and leather ring boxes on loan for the purpose, including this adorable case that looks rather like a pocketbook or bowling bag! We’ll let you know when the new rings are up on our website, but in the meantime, have a wonderful weekend!

Uniquely Natalie: Summer Vintage Dreams Pinterest Board
